Danger to the 2030 Census

Most of us will not be here in the year 2102 when, presumably, the 2030 census will be released for public use by genealogists, local historians, academic historians, and researchers of all kinds. (2102 is 72 years after 2030, the current standard for releasing census records to the public.)

Yet, we as citizens of a democratic republic – or if you prefer – a constitutional federal republic – have a duty and responsibility to inform our elected officials of our opinions on public policies even when those policies do not have a direct impact on us. If we fail to express our opinions, our electeds will assume we don’t know or don’t care what they are deciding or doing to us.

The current presidential administration is proposing radical changes to the 2030 census that will have negative repercussions immediately and for years to come, including to our descendant genealogists in 2102. To learn more, I invite your attention to the excellent blog post “The 2030 Census is in Trouble” by census historian Margo J. Anderson at https://donmoynihan.substack.com/p/the-2030-census-is-in-trouble.

After that, I invite you to go to “Hands Off Our Census” at https://handsoffourcens.us/index.html for more information – including how to submit your comment at Regulations.gov so that your voice is heard.

Once you’ve submitted your comment at Regulations.gov, then contact your Representative to Congress and your U.S. Senator with your concerns.
